MICHELE S. CUMBERLAND, MANAGING MEMBER

Michele Cumberland was born in the Washington, D.C. area and grew up in Snyder County, Pennsylvania.

Ms. Cumberland has been admitted to practice in Virginia since 1996 and in Maryland since 2004. Her focus is on collections, creditors’ rights, foreclosure, civil litigation, landlord/tenant and other real estate issues, with an emphasis on individualized client service. She has prepared and presented accredited continuing legal education seminars on topics such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Virginia collections, and Virginia exemption laws through the National Business Institute, the Fairfax Bar Association, and the Virginia Creditors Bar Association. She has presented lectures to the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors and its Property Manager division.

In addition to being active in the Virginia State Bar and the Maryland State Bar Association, Ms. Cumberland is a past President of the Virginia Creditors Bar Association (2011-2013). She is also a member of the Alexandria Bar Association and the Fairfax Bar Association.

Ms. Cumberland received her law degree from the Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, Pennsylvania (now merged into the Pennsylvania State University) in May 1996. She received a B.A. in English from the College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia in May 1990. She is a 1986 graduate of the Selinsgrove Area High School, Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.

Ms. Cumberland is the 2022-2023 President of The Twig, the Ladies Junior Auxiliary of INOVA Alexandria Hospital. She has previously served as the president of the SCYC, an Alexandria-based charity whose goal is to alleviate hunger in the neediest children in our community. She previously served on the local board of the American Red Cross, Alexandria chapter.
